The Latte Budget participates in affiliate marketing programs, which means I may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.
Thank goodness for the internet. There are so many ways you can make money online from the comfort of your own home.
I encourage everyone to find at least one way to make money outside of their full-time job. I could go on and on about why you need a side hustle, but, to keep it brief, it will help you get out of debt, build a business, act as career insurance, and help you meet your savings goals SO much faster.
Like I said, there are many ways to make money online, but I wanted to hit on some of my favorites, including what I do to make money. So here it is!
I’m sure it’s no surprise that blogging is the first thing I list. Blogging is a great way to earn money because you’re able to blog about anything that interests you.
Though you probably won’t make money from blogging immediately, there is no limit to what you can earn if you put in the work. I make a good chunk of money from this blog, and it opened up the doors to other ways of making money online.
2) Freelance writing
My blog allowed me to find clients who pay me to write for them. How amazing is that?! Never in my dreams did I imagine I would be earning money through writing.
The amount you earn with freelance writing is up to you. I know freelancers who charge $25 per post, and I know some who charge upwards of $300.
3) Sell junk on Craigslist
I am obsessed with Craigslist. I know some people are cautious, but I use it for everything. I adopted my cat through Craigslist and actually found my current job through Craigslist (and I work a legit job, I swear!)
Among other things I use Craigslist for is selling stuff I no longer need. I have made around $1,000 from selling stuff I thought was worthless. I’ve sold an old, scratched up couch, a broken fish tank, and some pretty ugly lamps.
No matter how junky you think something is, snap a picture of it and post it on Craigslist and watch the magic happen!
4) Start an Etsy shop
If you’re crafty and enjoy making handmade products, you could consider opening an Etsy shop.
If you aren’t familiar, Etsy is an online store with individual merchants. You can post your merchandise on Etsy without having to go and find all of your own clients. People already come to Etsy, so you just have to make your product visible.
I have not tried to sell anything on Etsy myself (I’m not so gifted in the crafting area…), but I do know people who make very good money from Etsy and some who even do it full-time.
5) Become a website or blog consultant
This is something I have recently had the opportunity to start doing. Since starting my blog from scratch, I’ve actually had other bloggers reach out to me for help with their own blog.
This is such a fun gig for me because I get to help people establish their dreams of starting a blog, and essentially, help them start their own business. Whether a client needs a simple logo, SEO training, help with content development, or a complete design overhaul, I’m there to help them.
6) Take online surveys
While taking online surveys won’t make you rich, it’s a good way to make a few bucks while sitting on your computer.
One of my favorite sites is Swagbucks. With Swagbucks, you can earn Swagbucks by taking surveys, playing games, or using it as a search engine. You can redeem Swagbucks for gift cards to your favorite retailers.
7) Switch to an online bank
While this isn’t an online job, you can make money by simply switching to an online bank.
I can’t recommend my Capital One 360 savings account enough. I originally started my emergency fund through Capital One 360, and then added my business account through them.
Because online bank accounts don’t have any brick and mortar locations, they are able to offer a much higher interest rate than your traditional bank. We can deposit checks through our phones, use one of the many free service ATMs they offer, all basically do all the same things we did with our old bank, but instead of earning maybe .05% interest on savings, we earn 0.75% with an online savings account. Best of all, there are no fees to open or maintain an account!
If you open a Capital One 360 savings account with at least $250, you can receive a $25 bonus.
8) Become a virtual assistant
Virtual assistants can handle a wide array of duties. They might help an individual book travel, answer emails, edit photos, or whatever else someone might need help with. You have to be willing to help with a variety of tasks, but being a virtual assistant is a great way to make money online, or even start your own full-time business.
9) Become an Instagram influencer
Let it be noted that I have no experience in this…my life is far too mundane. But you know those people with hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Instagram followers? They are making a killing as an influencer.
I’m not really sure how to do this other than to channel your inner Kylie Jenner, but it seems like a lot of people are doing it.
10) Manage social media
You can get hired and earn money by managing other peoples’ or companies’ social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram, and others.
If you’re really skilled at this, you could even become a social media consultant by studying up on the best social media strategies.
11) Take and sell photos
If you’re a skilled photographer, you can sell your photos as stock photos and make a good amount of cash. Best of all, it can be fairly passive income once you do the initial work.
Basically, you submit your photos to websites like ShutterStock and Snapwire. Once someone downloads your photo, the website takes a commission and you get the rest.
12) Be an online bookkeeper/accountant
If you’re good at accounting, you can become a freelance bookkeeper. While you don’t necessarily need experience as a professional accountant, solid knowledge of accounting is a must.
Working online is the perfect way to pad your pockets and get ahead in your financial journey. We could not be paying off our student loans at such a fast rate if it weren’t for my addition of online income. You truly can start doing any of these jobs from anywhere and turn it into as big or as small of a business as you would like.
